It's Cosmic: The Harmonic Convergence and 2012

"The Harmonic Convergence, At Long Last Get Ready:  The New Age Is Upon Us."

These were the headlines of the Miami Herald on that Friday morning.  It was August 14, 1987, just one year prior to the day that I would hear and believe the message of Jesus Christ and His death on the cross, receiving Him as the Lord and Savior of my life.  This was the gospel of salvation that I'd rejected in my teen years, at the age of twelve; and for the past eleven years I'd been creating my own spirituality, my own path to God (godhood!) and eternal life.
It had been a long week of waiting tables.  The sun was just rising and I was blissfully sleeping in when I  was awakened by ear-piercing screams accompanied with dream-shattering banging on my back door.  As I made my way through the kitchen I was met by my best friend, Lisa, who shoved the morning's newspaper into my hands, shouting, "This is it, this is it!  It's big!  It's big!"  I sleepily scanned that morning's front page article which read, "Maybe you haven't noticed.  Maybe no one has taken the time to mention it to you.  But there's a little something you might want to be aware of.  This weekend, sometime around sunrise on Sunday, marks the beginning of The End of Civilization As We Know It...What that the end of a 3,000-year age of materialism and the beginning of a 25-year phase of transition and purification that will lead to the synthesis of man and nature and finally, in 2012, to Earth becoming part of a kind of interplanetary galactic federation from which the Mayans knowledge originally came...a Harmonic Convergence...the first step into a New Age...a shift in planetary end to all the unpleasant aspects of modern life--war, famine, pollution, fat guys in bikini briefs...this is what we've been waiting for."  The announcement called for like-minded individuals to gather at designated "power points" around the world - Machu Piccu, the Great Pyramids, the Grand Canyon, Mt. Shasta, or in our case, Miami Beach - for conscious thought and meditation on changing the planet.
The dawning of the New Age had arrived at my apartment with front-page doorstep delivery and though we did not fully understand what we were doing, my friend and I went to our "sacred spot" two days later at sunrise on Sunday morning to meditate in silence, believing we were changing our world for the better.
It has been 25 years since that day in 1987 and the date-setters continue to forecast the long-awaited future event in which the earth and all humanity will make an evolutionary quantum leap into a higher realm of existence, into the level self-realization when the human race finally realizes its own divine nature and accepts that man and God are One.  Has anything changed?  Has this man-is-god utopian dream been realized yet at any level?  No!  In fact, if anything, things have grown worse and will continue to do so.  Isaiah 60:2 says, "For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people..."  If something works, don't change it, right?  That's the logic of the enemy.  Satan has been using the same lie on humanity since the days of creation when he lied to Eve in the Garden of Eden and said, "You shall not surely shall be as God, knowing good and evil," and he continues to use that same lie today in the false teachings of a promised New Age of spiritual enlightenment and evolutionary transformation of the human race into godhood.
Jose Arguelles and the Mayan Factor
Jose Arguelles was the author of many New Age books, including The Mayan Factor: Path Beyond Technology, and was the founder and coordinator of the first Harmonic Convergence in 1987.  Neither Arguelles nor his followers believed 2012 marked the end of the world, but rather the beginning of a New Age of spiritual transformation for the planet based on Mayan calendrical calculations and prophecies.  According to Arguelles, August 17, 1987 marked the close of one cycle (k'atun) and the beginning of another during which he called for global gatherings to focus on meditating for peace.  The purpose of these gatherings would be to create a "resonant field" through which the perceived separateness of creation by humanity would be realized or manifest as One.  This Oneness is the paradigm or religious thought of the New Age.  Jose Arguelles died on March 23, 2011 without realizing the fulfillment of humanity's (or his own) quantum leap into godhood.
Now the whole Earth had one language and one speech...And the Lord said, Indeed, the people are one and they have all one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.   Genesis 11:1, 6

Daniel Pinchbeck - 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl
Daniel Pinchbeck is the author of the book, 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl and a leading advocate for New Age thought, shamanism, and entheoginic evolution (the use of hallucinogenic drugs for spiritual transformation).  In 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl Pinchbeck takes readers on a journey of various Mayan, Hopi and Aztec prophecies while weaving in an assorted variety of New Age/New Earth proponents like Jose Arguelles, Terrence McKenna, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Fritjof Capra and Rainer Maria Rilke among others, all leading to the unproven hypothesis (scientific and spiritual) of an interconnectedness of mind or global humanity.  This is not a surprising  conclusion by those who adhere to and teach New Age thought.  What is surprising and even frightening is that Pinchbeck goes on to write very favorably on the mythology of the Chaldean snake god who first gave knowledge to the human race and of the divine principle of the number 666, the number of the beast; he even says the serpent of the biblical Eden was a form - or apparition - of Christ (pp. 378-379).  Is this the culmination of all 2012 and New Age prophecies?
These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.  Revelation 17:13
The prophecies of 2012, according to New Age leaders and Mayan shamans, do not point to the end of the world but to the end of one age, the Age of Pisces, and the beginning of a new age, the Age of Aquarius, and to the spiritual evolution of man into a new level of godhood.  And while December 21, 2012 is only one day in the calendar of our history, the spiritual effects may be long-lasting  and Christians would do well to pay attention to what these leaders are proposing and to apply the biblical principles of spiritual warfare in all areas of our lives.  Isaiah 60:2 says, "For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people..."  Through ritual and ceremony many portals or doorways to demonic realms will be opened as occult practitioners (some ignorantly) invoke evil spirits for their assistance in this quantum evolutionary step to a universal god-consciousness of oneness.  Unfortunately, many of these same practices of opening portals have now found their way into mainstream Christianity under the guise of self-initiated third-heaven experiences and what is termed as the "jumper anointing" as many sincere Christians are being deceived into such occult practices as guided visualization and astral projection in an effort to draw closer to God and gain more of His anointing.

Praise God, we are not without hope.  The second part of Isaiah 60:2 is the answer to the darkness that is coming upon the earth.  "...but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and His glory shall be seen upon thee."  Jesus Christ, the hope of glory, the true light, is our source of strength, power and authority to face all demonic power and deception that may come as a result of the 2012 or any other false prophecies.  Like most practitioners of New Age occultism, I'd been raised in a Christian home but had rejected what I thought was an outdated, outmoded form of religion in favor of my own alternative path, integrating whatever appealed to my personal whims - an eclectic mixture of spiritualism, seances, astrology, tarot cards, Hinduism and reincarnation beliefs - all of which left me spiritually empty and set me on a path of the darkest and most dangerous demonic deception.  Only through faith and a commitment to Jesus Christ did I finally find the truth and the only one who could fill that emptiness I'd been searching for for so long.

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by Me."  John 14:6

The Day of the Lord Will Come as a Thief in the Night

Part 2 of Tribulation is Not the Wrath of God

By:  DeAnne Loper

"Behold, He cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced Him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail beause of Him.  Even so, Amen."
Revelation 1:7

In Christian circles, whether among the best of friends or between casual aquaintances, the discussion (or debate!) of the rapture is one of the most controversial subjects in the Church today, and rightly so.  The coming tribulation will be the greatest time of distress the world has ever known.  Speaking of those days, Jesus said to the disciples, "For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be (Matthew 24:21)."

For many years Christians have been taught that the Church will not go through tribulation but will be taken out of this world seven years before Christ returns on the day of the Lord.  It's an appealing message.  After all, who wants to be left behind?  But in all honesty, how often do believers seek the Lord on this subject by studying the Scriptures for themselves, versus accepting what they hear from the pulpit and through popular books and movies?  Just like the contemporary Left Behind books, the 1970s movie, A Thief in the Night, was widely used in churches to promote a pre-tribulation rapture and the message was quite effective.  As a young girl growing up in the church I can remember hearing strong warnings that the rapture could happen at any moment, just as a thief comes unexpectedly, and that this would be followed by seven years of persecution upon those left behind.  But is this really what the Bible reveals?  Let's take a look.

- 1 Thessalonians 5: 2 & 4  -  For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night...But  ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
- 2 Peter 3:10  -  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
- Revelation 16:15  -  Behold, I come as a thief.  Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

It is clear from the above Scriptures that it is the day of the Lord and not a secret rapture that comes as a thief in the night.  Jesus said He is coming as a thief in Revelation 16:15.  However, this Scripture must be read in its context which takes place between the sixth and seventh bowl judgments, when "the kings of the earth" are gathered "to the battle of that great day of God Almighty...into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon (verses 12-17)."  Peter also describes the day of the Lord in apocalyptic terms with the passing away of the heavens and the earth, which will come as a thief in the night

Because of tradition these words, a thief in the night, have long been applied to verses like Matthew 24:40-41 to create a pre-tribulation rapture scenario in which two people are in the field or in the bed or grinding at the mill while one is secretly taken away seven years before tribulation begins; but nowhere do the Scriptures teach this (see Part 1 of this teaching).  Most Christians will agree that 1 Thessalonians 5:2-4 is in the context of the day of the Lord.  The verse itself clearly indicates this.  And so the question must be asked, where do the words, a thief in the night, fit in Biblical prophecy?  They cannot possibly fit into a pre-tribulation rapture because it is the day of the Lord - the second coming of Christ - which comes as a thief in the night and this takes place "immediately after the tribulation of those days (Matthew 24:29).

Another passage of Scripture that has traditionally been used to support a pre-tribulation rapture is 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17.  These verses are also taught in the context of a secret catching away of Believers seven years before the day of the Lord.  Let's look at this passage beginning with verse 15 through 17.

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (shall not go before) them which are asleep.  For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

As you can see I have highlighted some of the words with bold type.  These are key words to understanding this Scripture and other Scriptures on this subject because Scripture confirms Scripture.  A much overlooked verse pertaining to the timing of the rapture and the day of the Lord is Revelation 1:7 which gives the simplest yet clearest description of the second coming of Christ.

-  Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him.  Even so, Amen.

It is clear from this verse that the second coming of Christ will not be a secret but will be seen by all who are on the earth when He returns.  When the disciples asked Jesus about the sign of His coming in Matthew 24:3, Jesus described a single second coming, not a two-part second coming split into several phases and separated by seven years.  Matthew 24:29-31 is an amazing parallel to 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 and also describes the coming of the Lord as being seen and heard by all tribes of the earth immediately after the tribulation.

-  Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not giver her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:  And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven:  and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.  And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other (Matthew 24:29-31).

If we compare these three passages - Revelation 1:7, 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 and Matthew 24:29-31 - we can see that they are all referring to the same event:  the second coming of Christ, the day of the Lord, which Jesus also referred to as the last day (John 6:39-40, 44, 54).  Remember, 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 is the classic scriptural reference used to support the teaching that the rapture will happen before the tribulation.  This event is supposed to be a secret, quiet snatching away of the Church that leaves the world confused and wondering.  Yet verse 16 of this passage says the Lord will descend "with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God."

The second coming of Christ will contain the following elements, all of which can be found in Revelation 1:7, 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 and Matthew 24:29-31:

-    HE IS COMING IN THE CLOUDS - Rev. 1:7, Matt. 24:30
-    EVERY EYE WILL SEE HIM - Rev. 1:7, Matt. 24:30

As disciples of Jesus Christ we must prayerfully study the Bible for ourselves.  We simply cannot afford to be passive; neither can we insert our desired hopes or opinions into the Scriptures.  A sincere love for God and the truth of His Word above all tradition, signs and lying wonders will keep us from the strong delusion of the last days (2 Thess. 2:9-12).  Jesus promised, "In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world (John 16:33).

In part three we will study the timing of the rapture in further detail and will see from Christ's own words that He revealed exactly when the "catching away" will take place.
